Keltia: The World of Celtic Music & Culture
The
Celtic world once stretched across nearly all of Europe and into Asia.
Over the years, other cultures became dominant and the remaining Celtic
groups were those in the West of Europe. Today, we can talk about six
"Celtic Countries": Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and Brittany (in modern
France), where the native Celtic languages are still spoken, and
Cornwall and the Isle of Mann, where the culture is still very Celtic,
but where Cornish and Manx have recently ceased to be spoken. In
addition, the two northwest Spanish provinces of Galicia and Asturias
show considerable Celtic influence still in the music and other areas.
These influences were brought to parts of the Americas with the waves
of immigrants who have come to places like Cape Breton, Nova Scotia,
Louisiana, Appalachia, and more.
